Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Movie Set for September Release in Japan
AnimeJapan 2025 brought exciting news for Chainsaw Man fans as animation studio MAPPA officially announced the release date for Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc. The highly anticipated film will hit theaters in Japan on September 19, giving audiences their first look at the next chapter in Denji’s journey. Alongside the announcement, 12 newly designed character visuals were unveiled, showcasing fresh looks for the cast.
Returning to direct the film is Tatsuya Yoshihara, known for his work on episodes four and ten of the anime’s first season. Screenwriter Hiroshi Seko is once again handling the script, while Kazutaka Sugiyama remains in charge of character design. Additional key staff includes Souta Yamazaki as the Sub Character Designer, Sota Shigetsugu as the Action Animation Director, and Kiyotaka Oshiyama, director of Look Back, joining the team.
Based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s widely popular manga, Chainsaw Man first premiered on Crunchyroll in 2022, quickly gaining a massive fanbase. The story follows Denji, a teenager struggling to pay off his father’s debt by hunting devils alongside his Chainsaw Devil companion, Pochita. After being betrayed and killed, Denji makes a pact with Pochita and is revived as Chainsaw Man, a human-devil hybrid. The upcoming movie will continue his story as he works with Special Division 4’s devil hunters and meets Reze, a seemingly innocent café worker who will play a pivotal role in the film.
