Dante Returns: Devil May Cry Animated Series Confirmed for Season 2 on Netflix

Netflix has struck gold once again with its animated adaptation of Devil May Cry, which officially debuted its first season on April 3. Garnering enthusiastic reviews from both critics and fans alike, the stylish anime quickly found its footing among the platform’s top-performing titles. Within just its first week, the show accumulated more than 5.3 million views and racked up over 21 million hours of total watch time, earning it a spot as the fourth most-watched Netflix series during its premiere window.

Riding high on this wave of success, Netflix wasted no time in confirming that a second season is already on the way. The animated adaptation is spearheaded by producer Adi Shankar, who previously worked on game-inspired hits like Castlevania and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. His signature flair for gritty storytelling and rich visual style has helped breathe new life into the Devil May Cry franchise in its animated form.

Season one focused on Dante, the fearless demon slayer and iconic protagonist of the series, as he faced off against a villain known as the White Rabbit—an enemy bent on plunging the world into chaos by unleashing a demonic uprising.

Naturally, the success of the series has rekindled curiosity about the future of the game franchise itself. Fans are still eagerly awaiting news of Devil May Cry 6. A slip of the tongue by longtime Dante voice actor Reuben Langdon previously stirred speculation about the sequel, though he later clarified that he meant Devil May Cry 5. Whether it was an honest mistake or a hint at something in development remains a mystery.

Adding to the intrigue, 2024 also saw franchise director Hideaki Itsuno depart Capcom to pursue an unnamed project, casting some uncertainty on who might lead a future installment of the game. But if the animated show’s booming popularity is any indication, Capcom may find it hard to ignore the growing demand for Dante’s return in both animation and gameplay.
