Disney+ to Bring Villainous Magic Academy Adventure to Life in Anime Adaptation
Fans of the popular "villains academy adventure game" are in for a treat as the first season of the anime adaptation, Episode of Heartslabyul, gears up for its highly anticipated debut on Disney+ this October. Spanning three seasons, the anime will faithfully adapt the original smartphone game’s manga storyline, with subsequent arcs titled Episode of Savanaclaw and Episode of Octavinelle.
The main cast from the game reprises their roles, bringing familiar voices to beloved characters. Natsuki Hanae leads as Riddle Rosehearts, alongside Seiichirō Yamashita as Ace Trappola, Chiaki Kobayashi as Deuce Spade, and other returning talents. Mitsuru Miyamoto lends his voice to Dire Crowley, with Noriaki Sugiyama taking on Grim.
The creative team behind the anime boasts impressive credentials. Takahiro Natori, known for works like Aria the Benedizione and Tokyo Mew Mew New, serves as the chief director and script supervisor. Shin Katagai takes the director’s chair at Yumeta Company and Graphinica, with Yoichi Kato of Space Brothers fame crafting the main script. Hanaka Nakano and Akane Satō are breathing life into the characters with their designs.
Set in Night Ravens College, a magical school inspired by iconic Disney villains, the story begins when the protagonist is mysteriously summoned to another world by a magical mirror. Guided by the enigmatic headmaster, the protagonist must navigate life among the eccentric and brilliant students while searching for a way home.
The original game, launched in Japan in 2020, combines rhythm gameplay and battles with a rich narrative conceived by Black Butler creator Yana Toboso. Fans can look forward to an immersive stage presentation for both the game and the anime at AnimeJapan 2025 on March 22.
With its blend of classic Disney villain inspiration and an enthralling storyline, this adaptation is shaping up to be a magical journey for both new and longtime fans.
