If you like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, here are 3 other anime to watch

Studio Trigger and director Hiroyuki Imaishi have released a new anime series that takes place in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

Critics and anime fans alike have hailed the 10-episode limited series as one of the greatest new shows of 2022. Additionally, it has been credited with revitalizing the game's fan base.

Even though the anime has likely found its natural end and the next DLC expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 is still a ways away, here’s a list of anime recommendations to hold you over.

  • REDLINE

People started comparing Edgerunners to the 2009 sci-fi action movie Redline as soon as it came out on Netflix.

It is about Sweet JP, a daredevil street racer with a corkscrew pompadour who is determined to win gold in the Redline Grand Prix, the galaxy's most dangerous race.

The similarities between Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Redline are especially striking during the highway chase scene between David and a pair of Tyger Claw biker assassins in Edgerunner’s third episode "Smooth Criminal." Many viewers made comparisons between David's speed-induced grimace as he weaves dangerously through oncoming traffic and JP's clenched-jaw expression while racing to the finish line at the beginning of Koike's film.

  • Spriggan

The Netflix anime series Spriggan is an adaptation of the acclaimed 1980s manga series that ran from 1989 to 1996. This anime takes advantage of this new era of anime’s ability to perfectly blend 2D and 3D animation to give us a visual spectacle once believed to be impossible. From the story’s lore to the amazing fight choreography and voice acting, the Spriggan series is an amazing achievement in the field of animation.

  • Megalo Box

Few anime focus on sports, but the ones that do are usually awesome. In the same way, Megalo Box goes beyond expectations. There is no end to the action and drama but the visual aesthetics are the real draw. This world’s cybernetic limb technology adds just the right amount of sci-fi goodness to the show to make every fight “gearless Joe” enters that much more intense. Let’s be honest, who can resist a good underdog story?
