Takefusa Kubo Joins Doraemon's New Year's Eve Special

Professional soccer star Takefusa Kubo, known for playing with Spain's Real Sociedad, is set to make a special appearance in this year’s Doraemon New Year’s Eve 1-Hour Special, airing on December 31. The announcement by TV Asahi has thrilled fans, as Kubo's cameo adds a unique twist to the beloved anime's annual celebration.

The upcoming special will feature four distinct stories: New Year's Eve in Spain (Toshikoshi wa Spain de), I Want to Eat Crab! (Kani Tabetai), Move with the Moving Map (Hikkoshi Chizu de O-hikkoshi), and I Hate Money! (Okane Nante Daikirai!). The first story, set in Spain, coincides with the 30th anniversary of the anime’s debut in the country. In this segment, Nobita accidentally sleeps through New Year’s Eve, but Doraemon suggests celebrating in Madrid, where the new year has yet to begin. It’s here that Kubo appears, showcasing his soccer talents in a memorable moment. The episode will also include a special Spanish-language segment to teach viewers common words and phrases.

Looking ahead, Doraemon fans can anticipate even more excitement. The 44th film in the franchise, Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Esekai Monogatari (The Tale of Nobita's Picture World), is scheduled for release on March 7, 2025, commemorating the 45th anniversary of Doraemon movies. This follows the success of Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Earth Symphony, which topped the Japanese box office in 2024 with an impressive opening weekend.

Kubo’s involvement in the New Year’s Eve special marks another milestone for the globally cherished Doraemon series, blending sports and anime in a celebration of cultural and creative collaboration.
