Unlocking the Art of Animation: Insomniac Games Animator Launches Educational Series - “Anim Tips”

In early April, Gameplay Animator Avery Adams at Insomniac Games, previously associated with Sony's God of War and Avalanche's Hogwarts Legacy, kicked off "Anim Tips," a new educational series of short guides on all things 3D animation.

Shared weekly via Avery's social media pages, Anim Tips showcases and explains valuable gameplay animation techniques, utilizing sequences from various projects the author has previously worked on as examples. Each sequence is accompanied by an insightful explanation of diverse animation topics, including in-between poses, effectively conveying character emotions through animation, choreography, and more.

"I really want to start giving back to the animation community by providing resources and encouragement for all levels of animators," commented Avery on the idea behind the series. "I learned almost everything from online tutorials and a handful of animators that showed a lot of their process, such as Rory Alderton, Warren Goff, Christopher Hsing, Richard Lico, Ricky Wood, David Gibson, Jason Shum, Dillon Goo, Monty Oum, to name a few, thank you all for your public tutorials and lessons you’ve shared!"

Although the Anim Tips series is still in its infancy, with only three entries available as of the time of writing, it seems that its creator has no plans to stop anytime soon and intends to share many more insights into the realm of 3D gameplay animation going forward. Therefore, we highly recommend following Avery on Twitter and LinkedIn so as not to miss any future breakdowns.

Avery's initiative to share his knowledge and experience with the animation community is commendable. With his extensive background in the gaming industry, including work on major titles like God of War and Hogwarts Legacy, Anim Tips promises to be an invaluable resource for aspiring and established animators alike.

The tutorials provide a comprehensive breakdown of various animation techniques, offering practical advice and guidance. Aspiring animators can learn everything from basic principles to more advanced methods, all explained in a clear and accessible manner.

By sharing his expertise, Avery Adams is not only giving back to the animation community but also inspiring the next generation of animators. Anim Tips has the potential to become an essential learning tool for anyone interested in mastering the art of 3D animation.
