Nike LD-1000 Embraces Its Retro Roots with Size? Collaboration

The Nike LD-1000 has always been synonymous with vintage style. Originating in the late ’70s as a performance running shoe, its design exudes a nostalgic old-school vibe. Now, in partnership with retailer Size?, the LD-1000 has leaned even more into its retro identity, presenting a version that looks even more vintage than before.

This special edition of the LD-1000 showcases a classic knit upper that, particularly in its rich all-brown colorway, amplifies its aged appearance. The exposed stitching securing leather Nike swooshes gives the sneaker a handcrafted, almost rustic feel—though, of course, it's still mass-produced.

Released as an exclusive two-piece drop with Size?, this revamped LD-1000 pays homage to its past while cementing its place in modern fashion. It’s the latest effort in Nike’s ongoing journey to revitalize this once-forgotten silhouette.

The LD-1000 initially hit the market in 1977 as a running shoe designed with a wide, flared heel to support long-distance runners. Unfortunately, this feature was found to cause injuries, leading to the shoe’s recall and its subsequent disappearance into the Nike archives for nearly five decades.

Despite its rocky start, the LD-1000 is experiencing a resurgence. With recent collaborations, including those with Stüssy, and fresh new colorways, this vintage runner has found a new life as a lifestyle sneaker. Nike’s once-overlooked running shoe is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
