Meta Expands Its Board: UFC’s Dana White Joins the Roster
Meta has announced three new additions to its board of directors, including UFC President and CEO Dana White. This decision reflects Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s personal interests and professional strategy. Known for his passion for mixed martial arts, Zuckerberg has competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments and openly engaged with the sport’s community, often attending UFC events.
Dana White, a prominent figure in the MMA world, brings his entrepreneurial expertise and branding acumen to Meta’s board. Zuckerberg has publicly expressed admiration for White’s ability to cultivate a globally recognized and beloved brand. Their shared affinity for MMA has previously placed White at the center of discussions, including mediating a proposed cage match between Zuckerberg and Elon Musk.
White’s appointment is not without its controversies. He faced significant public backlash after a widely publicized New Year’s Eve incident two years ago, where he was recorded slapping his wife in a nightclub. White has since acknowledged the gravity of the incident, stating, “There’s no defense for this... I have to live with this for the rest of my life.”
Joining White on Meta’s board are John Elkann, CEO of Exor—a major European investment firm with stakes in Ferrari and Stellantis—and Charlie Songhurst, a seasoned technology investor and former Microsoft executive. These additions bring Meta’s board to 13 members.
In a statement, Zuckerberg highlighted the company’s ambitions in artificial intelligence, wearable technology, and the evolution of social media. “We have massive opportunities ahead,” Zuckerberg remarked, emphasizing the board’s critical role in achieving Meta’s forward-looking vision.
The diverse expertise of the new appointees underscores Meta’s intent to bolster its leadership as it navigates the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing tech landscape.
