Nékojita FuFu: The Robotic Cat That Cools Your Food

Yukai Engineering, the Tokyo-based company known for its quirky animal-inspired robots, has introduced Nékojita FuFu, a device designed to attach to mugs or bowls and cool your hot food or drinks. Making its debut at CES 2025, this unique gadget uses a combination of a small fan and a proprietary “Fuing System” algorithm to mimic the varied blowing patterns of a person.

The name Nékojita FuFu reflects its playful functionality. In Japanese, “FuFu” is an onomatopoeia for the sound of blowing on food, while “Nékojita” translates to “cat tongue,” referencing individuals who struggle with hot foods—a common trait among nearly half of Japan’s population, according to surveys.

Nékojita FuFu’s origins trace back to Yukai Engineering’s 2024 internal Make-a-Thon. Inspired by a team leader’s memory of blowing on baby food for his son until feeling lightheaded, the robot was designed to take over this tedious task. The result is a gadget with personality, offering multiple blowing modes, such as steady, gradual, or playful bursts, all designed to cool food effectively while keeping things fun.

Set to launch in Japan in mid-2025 for approximately $25, Nékojita FuFu showcases Yukai Engineering’s innovative approach to robotics. It’s not just a tool; it’s a whimsical companion that promises to make mealtime more enjoyable for those with sensitive tongues.
