In 2023 Robots Will Start Taking Jobs
U.S. ride-hailing company Uber (UBER.N) and driverless technology manufacturer Motional announced Wednesday that they had launched their public robotaxi service in Las Vegas.
Regulations and limited commercial adoption of autonomous vehicle technologies have hindered the rollout of robotaxi services. Investors are worried as a result of this.
With this launch, the two companies are kicking off a 10-year partnership that will see them compete in the driverless car market. The next step is a launch in Los Angeles.
In the multi-market agreement, Motional's autonomous vehicles would transport both passengers and packages for Uber and Uber Eats.
Uber stated to Reuters that they will begin charging for their driverless commercial debut, but that riders will not be paid during the first few days of operation.
Companies have stated that humans will continue to operate vehicles for the foreseeable future, but that autonomous driving technology will be standard by 2023.
