'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' has 2022’s second-biggest opening weekend

With an estimated $181 million domestically and over $331 million internationally, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, had the second-highest-grossing opening weekend of 2022.

When the first Black Panther movie was released in theaters in 2018, it made $202 million in its opening weekend. Disney stated in their assessment that the first film's success could be attributed to its release around President's Day and the Lunar New Year. During the same opening weekend, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was up against “She Said”: a documentary about the investigation into charges against Harvey Weinstein, and “The Menu”: which is about a restaurant's menu.
