Brick by Brick: Jack Black Joins the Minecraft Movie's Blockbuster Cast

As Hollywood gears up for the Minecraft movie, actor-musician Jack Black joins the star-studded cast, set to portray Steve in the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the sandbox sensation created by Mojang. Joining forces with Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, and Emma Myers, Black's inclusion adds another layer of excitement to the film.

Jack Black's no stranger to the gaming realm, having previously voiced Bowser in the billion-dollar Super Mario Bros. adaptation and taking on the role of Claptrap in the forthcoming Borderlands adaptation. His gaming repertoire extends further into titles like Broken Age, Psychonauts 2, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, solidifying his gaming cred in the industry.

While details about the Minecraft movie storyline remain under wraps, director Jared Hess, known for his work on Napoleon Dynamite, is at the helm, reuniting with Black since their collaboration on 2006's Nacho Libre.

The Minecraft movie has undergone various iterations over nearly a decade of development. From Shawn Levy's early involvement to Rob McElhenney's take inspired by The Goonies, and Peter Sollett's version focusing on a group battling an Ender Dragon, the project has evolved. Hess's involvement in 2022, alongside Momoa, hints at a new direction, leaving fans curious about the story's evolution.

Set for an April 4, 2025 release by Warner Bros. and Legendary, the live-action adaptation's production is on the brink of commencing, promising an immersive cinematic journey into the blocky world of Minecraft.
