Jeffrey Wright Brings Isaac Dixon to Life in The Last of Us Season 2
Although fans of HBO’s The Last of Us will have to wait until 2025 for its eagerly awaited second season, Jeffrey Wright is already offering insights into his role in the acclaimed series. Wright is no stranger to the world of The Last of Us, having voiced Isaac Dixon in the video game, and now he’s stepping into the live-action portrayal of the character.
Reflecting on his introduction to the franchise, Wright credits his son for sparking his interest. “My son was a fan of the game, and through him, I met Neil Druckmann, the creator,” Wright shares. Druckmann, also the mastermind behind the show, offered Wright the chance to lend his voice to Isaac in the game. “I asked my son about it, and his excitement made the decision easy,” Wright says, chuckling at the memory.
In the game, Isaac Dixon leads the Washington Liberation Front, a powerful militia group. Wright teases that the series will dive deeper into Isaac’s backstory, exploring facets of his character not seen in the game. “This season, we reveal more about his history,” Wright explains. While tight-lipped on specifics, he hints that viewers should brace themselves for what’s ahead. “Buckle up,” he warns.
Wright is the latest performer to transition from the video game to the HBO adaptation, joining others like Merle Dandridge, who reprised her role as Marlene in Season 1. The show has also featured original game stars Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in new roles, further connecting the series to its gaming roots.
For Wright, embodying Isaac Dixon in live-action offers a unique challenge. “Revisiting the character in the flesh was a fascinating experience,” he notes. Fans can expect a deeper exploration of Isaac’s story, adding fresh dimensions to the richly layered universe of The Last of Us.
