Netflix Announces Price Hikes Amid Record Subscriber Growth
Netflix is raising subscription prices across several plans in the U.S. and select international markets, marking another adjustment to its pricing structure. This comes as the streaming giant reports record subscriber growth, adding 18.9 million new users in the fourth quarter of 2024—its largest quarterly increase ever.
For U.S. subscribers, the Standard plan without ads will see its monthly price climb from $15.49 to $17.99. This change follows a previous price increase in January 2022. The ad-supported tier, popular for its affordability, will also rise, moving from $6.99 to $7.99 per month. Premium subscribers will face a price bump as well, with their monthly cost going from $22.99 to $24.99. Additionally, the fee for adding an "Extra Member" to an account will increase from $7.99 to $8.99.
Price hikes aren’t limited to the U.S. In Canada, the ad-supported plan will now cost CAD $7.99, the Standard plan will rise to CAD $18.99, and the Premium tier will increase to CAD $23.99. Similar changes have been implemented in Portugal and Argentina.
Despite these adjustments, Netflix's ad-supported plans are thriving. They accounted for over 55% of new subscribers in regions where the option is available, demonstrating strong demand for the more budget-friendly tier.
These changes come after Netflix raised prices in October 2023 for subscribers in the U.S., U.K., and France. The company continues to adapt its pricing as it expands its subscriber base and bolsters its offerings in an increasingly competitive streaming landscape.
