Sakamoto Days Anime Takes Global Streaming Charts by Storm

The anime adaptation of Yuuto Suzuki's Sakamoto Days has taken the world by storm, ranking as the second most-watched non-English show on Netflix globally for the week of January 13–19. The series trailed only behind Squid Game: Season 2, showcasing its immense popularity. In the U.S., the anime claimed the ninth spot among all shows.

During this week, Sakamoto Days secured the number one spot in five countries, appeared in the top 10 in 67 nations, and amassed a staggering 8.6 million views. Its success was complemented by strong performances from other titles on Netflix, including Castlevania: Nocturne: Season 2 at number 10 among English-language shows and the first Sonic the Hedgehog live-action film at number 8 among English-language films. Additionally, the fourth live-action Kingdommovie, Kingdom: Return of the Great General, ranked fifth globally for non-English movies.

The Sakamoto Days anime premiered on January 11 on TV Tokyo and related channels, with its Netflix debut occurring the same day. The platform is currently streaming "Part 1" of the series, consisting of 11 episodes, and has confirmed that "Part 2" will arrive in July.

Directed by Masaki Watanabe (KADO - The Right Answer, Bartender), the anime is produced by TMS Entertainment. Taku Kishimoto (BLUELOCK, Haikyu!!) oversees the scripts, while Yō Moriyama (Lupin the IIIrd) handles character design. The series features the opening theme "Hashire Sakamoto" (Run, Sakamoto) by Vaundy and the ending theme "Futsū" (Normal) by Conton Candy.

As the anime continues to captivate global audiences, its success highlights the universal appeal of its blend of action, humor, and heartfelt storytelling.
