Sonic the Hedgehog 3: First Look at Shadow the Hedgehog Revealed
Sonic fans, get ready to rev your excitement! A new set photo from the production of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has just teased the introduction of a beloved character, Shadow the Hedgehog. Shared by director Jeff Fowler on X, the image features the Sonic 3 logo on a clapperboard and a sneak peek at Shadow’s iconic sneakers and clenched fists, stirring anticipation among fans eagerly awaiting his cinematic debut.
While the glimpse only showcases Shadow’s footwear and fists, it's enough to fuel the excitement, especially after the character’s brief appearance in the post-credit sequence of the previous Sonic film.
In addition to this exciting revelation, there's another surprising change in the Sonic universe: the clean-shaven transformation of Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, a first in the franchise's history.
Returning to the director's chair, Jeff Fowler continues his Sonic legacy after steering both previous Sonic movies. The screenplay credits go to Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington. The film brings back the voices of Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, and Idris Elba as Knuckles. As for Shadow the Hedgehog’s voice actor, it remains undisclosed for now.
The star-studded cast for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also includes James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Lee Majdoub. However, there's speculation surrounding Jim Carrey’s return as Dr. Robotnik, as his involvement in the upcoming film hasn’t been officially confirmed. Carrey had previously hinted at retirement post Sonic the Hedgehog 2, leaving fans curious about Robotnik’s role in the third installment.
Producer Toby Ascher expressed the team’s admiration for Carrey, affirming his importance in the Sonic universe and their desire to have him on board for future projects.
Moreover, the Sonic franchise expands its horizons with the development of a Paramount+ series titled "Knuckles," starring Idris Elba. This series is set to bridge the gap between the second and third Sonic movies and may even feature Shadow before his cinematic debut. "Knuckles" is anticipated to hit Paramount+ in early 2024.
