LEGO PlayStation 2 Concept Gains Traction for Official Release
A fan-designed LEGO PlayStation 2 set has captured enough interest on the LEGO Ideas platform to enter the toymaker's official review process. Created by a user named RippleDrive, the set recently reached the milestone of 10,000 supporters, prompting LEGO to evaluate its potential for development as an official product, as reported by PushSquare.
The concept features an impressive 2,043-piece design, replicating the iconic PlayStation 2 console, along with a DualShock 2 controller and memory cards that mirror the dimensions of the originals. The set isn’t just visually accurate but also highly interactive. Users can insert memory cards into the console, plug in controllers, open and close the disc tray, and even remove the top panel to explore the console’s interior details.
RippleDrive explained the inspiration behind the creation, citing a deep nostalgia for the PS2, which he considers his favorite gaming console. “I have so many fond memories of playing the PS2 as both a kid and an adult,” he shared on the LEGO Ideas page. The project also pays tribute to the console’s 20th anniversary, which was celebrated in 2020.
Should LEGO greenlight the design, the next step would involve obtaining Sony’s approval to bring the set to market. If successful, this unique blend of gaming and building could soon find its way into the hands of fans eager to relive the PS2 era in brick form.
