"Spider-Man 2" Sets a New Standard for PlayStation Studios
In a remarkable feat of speed and popularity, "Marvel's Spider-Man 2," the video game developed in collaboration with Insomniac Games, has shattered records for PlayStation Studios. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) proudly announced that this title achieved the distinction of being the fastest-selling game from PlayStation Studios within the first 24 hours following its release.
Within this brief timeframe, eager fans acquired over 2.5 million copies of the game, according to SIE. Eric Lempel, SIE's global marketing vice president, expressed his gratitude to the fans for their overwhelming support. He highlighted the game's appeal, citing an epic storyline, two playable superheroes, the visually stunning rendition of Marvel's New York, and an array of captivating features that can keep players immersed for hours on end.
Spider-Man's journey as a superhero dates back to the early 1960s in Marvel comics, but it wasn't until the 1990s that he made his foray into video games, albeit without major success. Fast forward to the 2000s, where the popularity of blockbuster superhero movies paved the way for Spider-Man's resurgence in the gaming world.
Starting in 2018, Insomniac Games developed a series of highly successful games featuring the iconic character for Sony, ultimately leading to the studio's acquisition by the tech giant in the following year.
Sony spared no effort in crafting "Marvel's Spider-Man 2," pushing the graphics of the PlayStation 5 to its limits to provide an immersive experience battling formidable foes like Kraven the Hunter.
Players have the choice of stepping into the shoes of the original Peter Parker or embodying the character of Miles Morales, the Hispanic-African-American teenager introduced in 2011.
Marvel Games' head, Jay Ong, expressed his delight at the faithful representation of the characters and the emergence of powerful and meaningful new stories within the game.
