During Sony's State of Play live stream on Tuesday, 09/13/2022, the developers of Ninja Gaiden and Nioh, Team Ninja, demonstrated their next action role-playing game “Rise of the Ronin”. It seems to be aiming for quite a few things. According to Fumihiko Yasuda, director, and president of Team Ninja, Rise of the Ronin has been in development for 7 years. Players will embark on an open-world mission set in 19th-century Edo-era Japan with a heavy focus on martial arts and combat.

On the PlayStation Blog, Yasuda explained, "In this moment of anarchy, you play as a Ronin character, a warrior that has no master and is free to make its own judgments." "The new Team Ninja experience, Rise of the Ronin, will transport you to a world inspired by real events. Not only does it have the classic swordplay with katanas and other Japanese blades, but it also introduces several novel weaponry that is in keeping with the era's aesthetic."

The debut trailer for Rise of the Ronin shows the (unnamed) Ronin doing acrobatic swordfights, flying through the air, using a grappling hook, and shooting adversaries with a bayonet and musket.

In 2024, Rise of the Ronin will launch exclusively on the PlayStation 5, but you can bet that it will make its way over to PC as well.
