Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Races to Become One of the Biggest Video Game Movies Ever

The blue blur continues to break records, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 now securing its place as the second-highest-grossing video game film in history. The latest installment in the franchise has pulled in an impressive $462 million globally, surpassing several other major gaming adaptations.

While Sonic 3’s earnings are remarkable, it still trails behind the all-time champion, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which amassed an astounding $1.26 billion worldwide. Even so, Sonic has outpaced notable competitors, including Detective Pikachu, which concluded its theatrical run at $450 million, and Warcraft, which earned $439 million back in 2016. Other well-known adaptations, such as Rampage ($428 million), Uncharted ($407 million), and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ($405 million), also fall behind the latest film’s success.

The momentum doesn’t stop here. With the Sonic franchise continuing to thrive, fans won’t have to wait too long for the next adventure. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has already been announced and is set to hit theaters on March 19, 2027. Given the overwhelming response to Sonic 3, anticipation is already building for what’s next in the high-speed cinematic journey of the world’s most famous hedgehog.
