Pokémon Celebrates Pokémon Day with Heartwarming New Anime

Pokémon fans have a special treat coming their way as CoMix Wave Films unveils Dragonite and the Postman, a brand-new anime set to premiere on February 27 in celebration of Pokémon Day. Known for breathtaking animated features such as Your Name, Weathering With You, and Suzume, CoMix Wave Films brings its signature artistry to the Pokémon universe, delivering a story filled with warmth, adventure, and heartfelt connections.

Directed by industry veteran Taku Kimura, whose work includes Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, the anime promises to captivate audiences with stunning visuals and a touching narrative. Tasuku Watanabe, known for his contributions to Makoto Shinkai’s films, takes on the role of art director, ensuring a visually immersive experience. Meanwhile, the script is penned by Kentaro Nana, and the enchanting musical score is composed by Evan Call, who also worked on Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Call’s talents extend to the film’s theme song, Paper Plane, performed by suis from Yorushika.

The story follows Hana, a young girl who idolizes a Dragonite postman. When she receives a letter without an addressee, she embarks on a journey with her partner Pokémon, Fuecoco, to track down the sender. The letter’s origin leads her to a boy named Rio, who had written it for his father’s birthday—only to realize the special day has already arrived. Racing against time, Hana takes it upon herself to ensure the letter reaches its intended recipient.

Set to premiere at midnight JST on February 27, Dragonite and the Postman will be available for streaming worldwide on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. With its blend of stunning animation, an emotionally resonant storyline, and a beautifully composed soundtrack, this special release is sure to leave a lasting impression on Pokémon fans everywhere.
