Oura Enhances Readiness Score Algorithm for Improved Menstrual Cycle Tracking

Oura is making strides in wearable health technology with a significant update to the algorithm behind its Readiness Score, aiming to provide more precise insights for women tracking their menstrual cycles. This latest improvement is designed to enhance accuracy by adjusting the Readiness Score based on cycle-related physiological changes. The update arrives alongside an announcement that Oura is partnering with Scripps Research Digital Trials Center to explore the impact of pregnancy on physiological health.

The Readiness Score, which is calculated using data from sleep, body temperature, heart rate, and heart rate variability (HRV), will now adapt according to hormonal fluctuations throughout the cycle. Oura estimates that 65% of users may notice changes in their scores, reflecting the natural variations that occur during different phases, particularly the luteal phase. However, the company notes that the Readiness Score will only be lower on about three percent of tracked days, ensuring that users continue to receive valuable and reliable insights.

Holly Shelton, Oura’s chief product officer, emphasized the importance of integrating scientific research into wearable technology, stating that a deeper understanding of menstrual cycle patterns can help women make more informed health decisions. This commitment to research-driven innovation extends to the company’s latest study, which will analyze data from 10,000 pregnant individuals wearing the Oura Ring. The study aims to expand knowledge on pregnancy-related health risks such as preterm labor, miscarriage, and postpartum depression.

For those interested in participating, applications can be submitted through the Oura app. Meanwhile, the latest Oura Ring 4 is available starting at $399, while the third-generation model remains a solid option for those seeking value without compromising on essential features.
