Netflix’s One Piece Live-Action Adaptation Scores Big at the Children's & Family Emmys

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved One Piece manga has made waves again, securing 11 nominations at the 2024 Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominations, highlighting the series' impressive achievements in multiple categories, including Young Teen Series, Cinematography, Visual Effects, Casting, and Costume Design. Ian McShane also earned a nod in the Children’s Personality category, further showcasing the series' wide-ranging appeal and creative excellence.

Adding to its success, the show earned nominations for Music Direction and Composition, an Original Song, and Stunt Coordination, celebrating its dynamic production quality. The detailed craftsmanship in Hairstyling, Makeup, and Art Direction has also been recognized, affirming the production’s dedication to bringing the world of One Piece to life in vivid detail.

The first season, which premiered in August 2023 on Netflix, consisted of eight episodes and covered the East Blue saga. With its massive popularity, a second season is already in the works. Series creator Eiichiro Oda revealed that the next season will explore the storylines leading to the Drum Island arc, including fan-favorite locations like Loguetown, Whiskey Peak, and Little Garden. Joe Tracz joins the creative team as a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner, alongside returning talents Matt Owens and Steve Maeda.

While fans eagerly await the expected 2025 release of Season 2, the accolades continue to pour in for the series. Produced by Tomorrow Studios, a collaboration between Marty Adelstein and ITV Studios, One Piece has set a new benchmark for live-action anime adaptations. These Emmy nominations underscore the team’s remarkable ability to translate a legendary manga into a universally celebrated show.
