Sony Slashes PSVR 2 Price—Is Now the Time to Jump Into VR?

Sony is making a bold move in response to the lukewarm reception of the PlayStation VR2, and it’s one that many fans have been waiting for. Starting in March, the PSVR 2 will see a significant price drop, as announced in an official PlayStation Blog post. This much-needed adjustment aims to make the headset more accessible to a wider audience, potentially breathing new life into the platform.

The standard PSVR 2 bundle—which includes the headset, controllers, and headphones—will now retail for $399.99/£399.99, a steep reduction from its original $549.99/£529.99 price tag. Additionally, the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which comes with everything from the base set along with a game code, will also be available for the same $399.99/£399.99/€449.99 price point. With both editions now at equal pricing, it seems like an easy choice for new buyers to opt for the bundle, unless they already own the game.

Despite the discount, some fans remain skeptical, viewing the price cut as a move to offload existing stock rather than reinvigorate the PSVR 2 ecosystem. The recent State of Play notably lacked any major VR announcements, raising concerns about Sony’s long-term commitment to the platform. However, the device’s ability to connect to PCs via an adapter provides a silver lining, offering compatibility with a broader library of VR content beyond PlayStation's offerings.

For those who have been hesitant to invest in virtual reality, this price reduction could be the push needed to take the leap. Whether Sony continues to fully support the PSVR 2 or shifts its focus elsewhere, the headset’s newfound affordability makes it a compelling option for gamers looking to explore the immersive world of VR.
