Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra – A Wartime Saga of Heroes and Betrayal
The next highly anticipated title from Marvel Games and Skydance Games, led by Uncharted director Amy Hennig, is set to take players deep into a World War II-era battle against Hydra. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will explore the early days of Steve Rogers as he steps into his role as Captain America, while also introducing Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s.
Unveiled during an Unreal Engine showcase at GDC, the game will feature Drew Moerlein as Captain America and Khary Payton as Black Panther. While no official release date has been confirmed, Payton recently suggested that players might see the game in 2025, possibly around the holiday season.
Last December, new concept art from the game was revealed, offering a glimpse into the mysterious and heavily fortified jungles of Wakanda. At this time in history, Wakanda remains hidden from the world, maintaining its stance of non-intervention. However, as global tensions escalate, the nation is forced to reconsider its position. The game’s narrative will follow Captain America and Black Panther as they set aside their differences and forge an uneasy alliance to combat the growing Hydra threat. They will be joined by Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos and Nanali, a Wakandan spy stationed in Occupied Paris, as they work together to prevent Hydra from turning the chaos of World War II into a global catastrophe.
For Hennig, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra marks a long-awaited return to storytelling in the gaming world. After her work on Forspoken in 2023 and her previous involvement with Battlefield Hardline, this will be her first major directorial role in years. Fans of her narrative-driven style are eager to see how she brings this wartime superhero adventure to life. With its rich historical setting, intense character-driven conflict, and a Hydra-fueled conspiracy at its core, Marvel 1943 is shaping up to be a thrilling addition to Marvel’s gaming universe.
